Centrient was the proud winner of the 2018 GSK Environmental Sustainability Suppliers Award in the large enterprise category. We were nominated for the Biogas Project at our site in Toansa, India, which generates biogas from the sludge generated from our wastewater treatment plant. This innovative process means sludge is no longer incinerated it on-site; a process that uses considerable energy and generates a large carbon footprint. In this way, we are able to avoid more than 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The award shone a light on our environmental projects, which have gained extensive recognition from within the pharmaceutical industry. The projects were assessed based on three key criteria: 1) innovation level, 2) environmental performance and impact, and 3) trust (positive social impact in surrounding communities). The Toansa Biogas Project scored highly on innovation and for achieving a substantial reduction in energy usage and carbon footprint.
